Staff and Associates
The SDF works to promote a step change in sustainability for the built environment, with a particular focus on clients and investors. Through this work, Jon is Director of the Good Homes Alliance (GHA), and the SHINE network for sustainable healthcare buildings, as well as leading projects on schools, existing homes and low carbon buildings and communities.
Jon has almost 20 years experience in sustainability for the property and construction sectors, including previous roles at The Prince’s Foundation and CIRIA (the Construction Industry Research and Information Association) and has specific expertise in how to embed sustainability into the building procurement process. Jon is also an Associate at Forum for the Future.

Tanisha is a registered architect from India and has worked on green building projects in practice there. Her keen interest in aesthetic sustainable design brought her to the UK where she completed a Masters in Sustainable Architectural Technology from the University of Nottingham. She worked at The Architects’ Journal under Sustainability editor Hattie Hartman on the very successful ‘Footprint’ blog and currently works with Hattie as a research assistant on her other Sustainable design publications. At the SDF Tanisha works on the Passivhaus Trust and is currently working on the Passivhaus Database which will be a useful resource of information on UK Passivhaus projects, product suppliers, accredited designers, technical details and so on.

Membership and events manager
Extensive background in events management and membership engagement as Director General of the Outdoor Industries Association and the British Activity Holidays Association. Moved to work at an environmental/sustainability consultancy concentrating on GHG emissions audit and verification, the CRC and EUETS training. My long-term ambition is to commission our own low-energy house.

Associate - Passivhaus Trust
Simon has been active in the field of Sustainable Development in many guises. He currently works part-time for the SDFoundation as Technical Manager of the Good Homes Alliance.
Simon originally trained as a Chartered Surveyor and has recently completed a Masters in Architecture at CAT.
Simon has previously worked at Construction Resources and BioRegional/ one Planet Products and is Currently a freelance consultant for companies such as Ecomerchant and the BioRegional Development Group.
Simon has also started a company involved in Climate Change Education in schools: Cut the Carbon.

Ann is a registered architect who works for SDF on the SHINE project on a freelance, part-time basis.
Ann has 30+ years experience working in research in the construction industry, mainly for the Building Research Establishment and CIRIA, including good practice guidance including: prefabrication and modern methods of construction, design for deconstruction, access for all to public buildings, reclaimed and recycled materials for construction.
For the past two and a half years, Ann has been involved in consultancy on accessibility: the Disability Discrimination Act requirements, access auditing and design appraisals, and training for the Centre for Accessible Environments.

Helen is an associate of SDFoundation and Director of Happy Heat and Power. HHP enables communities to own and manage their own renewable energy. Helen has 10 years experience in the planning and construction industry, through 5 years as Associate Director for sustainability at EDAW and 5 years at the Centre for Sustainable Construction at BRE.

Jonathan Davis is director of the Transition Studio, the sustainable built environment consultancy he founded in 2010. Jonathan is a registered architect, planner and urban designer with extensive experience in the private sector and local and national government. He was CABE’s Director of Knowledge & Skills and was previously a founding director of John Thompson & Partners LLP.
Jonathan has worked on urban change and neighbourhood renewal projects throughout the UK, France, Iceland and the Czech Republic and is a specialist in stakeholder engagement, leadership development and mentoring, built environment research and policy and strategies to enable the transition to low carbon, resource efficient cities, towns and villages.

Associate - Housing (GHA and Passivhaus Trust)
Melissa has a background in Architecture, and works part-time for the GHA and Passivhaus Trust. She is also a Senior Sustainability Consultant at Hilson Moran, and is a thesis supervisor and occasional lecturer at the Centre for Alternative Technology and University of East London, where she was a Senior Lecturer from 2001-2010 for the MSc Architecture: Advanced Environment & Energy Studies.

Laura's academic background is in Physics. She has a PhD in interfacial phase transitions. Previously, Laura was a programmer, working on financial websites.
For the SDFoundation, Laura does research and policy work. Her special interests are in community and energy.

Tom is the Director of SBEO, a creative network of interdisciplinary consultants providing advice on a range of issues relating to sutainable development in the built enviornment. He previously worked for AECOM and Fulcrum Consulting. Tom is also a Director of Sponge (www.spongenet.org), a network open to all built enviornment professionals with an interest in sustainable development. His work for Sponge involves organising the informal, accessible events that Sponge runs, including site visits, debates, and policy consultation discussions.

Christopher worked as a Building Services engineer at Fulcrum Consulting before joining the GHA team as an Associate focusing on technical issues. Having moved to the UK to complete a masters at Loughborough University in renewables, he liked the place so much he decided to stay, and settled in London. Chris is currently working on the GHA monitoring programme.
